This policy explains what information Truth Trade collects, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. It covers two groups of people: customers who order reports, and the previous owners of the vehicles we research. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Truth Trade.
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run your investigation, deliver your report and handle payments, refunds and credits.
- We never sell personal information, and we never share customer information with dealerships.
- Previous owners’ names and phone numbers never appear in reports and are never given to customers or dealers.
- Owners are never told who ordered a report.
- Card details go straight to our payment processor, Stripe. They never touch our website.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time.
1. Information we collect from customers
Information you give us
- Contact details: your name, email address, phone number and the state you live in.
- Vehicle details: the VIN, year, make and model, dealership name and location, listed price, listing link and whether you chose Rush.
- Messages: anything you send us by email or through the site.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number and security code go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our website or by our team. Stripe shares with us only what we need to confirm and manage your order, such as the amount paid, the last four digits of your card and the payment status. Stripe’s use of your information is covered by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our site and hosting provider automatically record basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view and the time of your visit. This is used to keep the site secure, prevent fraud and fix problems.
2. How we use customer information
- To carry out your investigation and email you your report
- To send order confirmations, status updates and answers to your questions
- To contact you by email, phone or text about your order if we need more information
- To process payments, refunds and credits, and to calculate sales tax
- To keep records required for accounting and tax purposes
- To prevent fraud and misuse of our services
- To improve our service using de-identified findings that never include your name or contact details
After your report is delivered, we may send you one email asking how it went and inviting you to leave a review. We don’t add you to a marketing list or send promotional emails unless you ask us to.
3. Previous owners
Our service involves contacting the previous owner of a vehicle to learn about its history. If you are a previous owner, this section explains how we handle your information.
- How we find you. We identify a vehicle’s last registered owner using licensed data providers and lawful investigative methods, in compliance with the federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (18 U.S.C. § 2721 et seq.) and Florida’s private investigator licensing laws.
- What we keep. Your name, the phone numbers we tried, a log of our calls and texts, and notes about the vehicle from our conversation.
- What the buyer sees. Only information about the vehicle. Your name, phone numbers, address and other personal details are never included in a report and are never given to the buyer or the dealership. We also never tell you who ordered the report.
- Talking with us is voluntary. You can decline, skip any question or end the call at any time.
- Recorded calls. We record a call only if you agree at the start. Recordings are used only to take accurate notes and are deleted after the report is finished.
- Stop contact any time. Tell us on the phone, reply STOP to any text, call (813) 550-5077, or email info@truthtrade.co, and we won’t contact you about that vehicle again.
How long we keep previous-owner information
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Call recordings | Deleted once the report is finished |
| Phone numbers that didn’t reach you | Deleted 30 days after the report is finished |
| Phone numbers we reached you on | Kept with the case file as a record of the investigation |
| Your name, if we spoke with you | Kept with the case file as a record of the investigation |
| Your name, if we never reached you | Deleted 30 days after the report is finished |
| Case notes about the vehicle | Kept with the case file as a record of the investigation |
4. Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run Truth Trade, and only what each one needs:
| Type of provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Payment processing (Stripe) | Processes payments, refunds and credit codes |
| Website hosting | Hosts our website and order records |
| Email and productivity tools | Run our business email, contacts and scheduling |
| Document and note tools | Help us turn interview notes into a draft report. Names and phone numbers are removed first, and the text isn’t kept |
| Licensed data providers | Help us identify a vehicle’s last registered owner |
| Vehicle market data | Price history, similar cars for sale, and finding the car’s listing when you enter a VIN at checkout. They receive only vehicle details (VIN, year, make, model and the dealer’s ZIP code), never anyone’s personal information |
We give each provider only the information it needs to do its job for us.
Public vehicle data, such as safety recalls and complaints, comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. We send them only the VIN, never anyone’s personal information.
We may also share information when required by law, subpoena or court order, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or transfer of our business. We do not sell personal information, and we don’t share it with dealerships, data brokers or advertisers.
5. Cookies, analytics and advertising
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies that are needed for it to work, such as keeping your order details in place during checkout and protecting the site from abuse. We may also use measurement tools from analytics and advertising providers to understand how visitors find and use our site and to measure our ads. These tools may collect information about your device and browsing on our site.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most ad platforms let you opt out of personalized ads in your account settings. Some features of the site may not work properly without cookies.
6. How long we keep customer information
We keep order records, including your contact details, vehicle details, payment records and a copy of your report, for as long as needed to provide the service and handle refunds and credits, and for up to seven years after your order to meet tax and accounting requirements. After that, we delete or de-identify them.
7. How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) on our website, access limited to our team members who need it, and keeping card details entirely with Stripe. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we’ll notify you as required by law.
8. Your choices and rights
No matter where you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we have about you and give you a copy
- Correct information that’s wrong
- Delete your information, unless we need to keep it for legal, tax or accounting reasons
- Stop contacting you
Email info@truthtrade.co or call (813) 550-5077 with your request. To protect your information, we may ask you to confirm your identity before we act on it. We’ll respond within 30 days, and we won’t treat you differently for making a request. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your state’s privacy laws. We’ll honor those rights as required.
9. Children
Our services are for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
10. Links to other sites
Our site and reports may link to other websites, such as a dealership’s listing or a government recall page. We’re not responsible for how those sites handle your information, so please review their privacy policies.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our service changes. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. If we make a significant change to how we use personal information, we’ll make it clear on this page before the change takes effect.
