If someone from Truth Trade texted, called or left you a voicemail about a car you used to own, this page explains who we are, why we reached out, and how to check that the call is real before you decide whether to talk with us.
Who we are
Truth Trade is a small, Florida-licensed company in Tampa. Our customers are people about to buy a used car from a dealership. Before they pay, they hire us to learn the car’s real history, and the only person who truly knows that history is the person who drove it: you.
Why we contacted you
A car you owned is for sale at a dealership right now, and someone is deciding whether to buy it. They asked us to find out why it was traded in, how it held up, whether it was ever in an accident, and how it was maintained. The dealership usually can’t answer those questions. You can.
We found you through public vehicle records. We did not get your number from the dealership, and the dealership does not know we called you.
What happens if you talk with us
- It takes about ten minutes, by phone or by text, whichever you prefer.
- You can skip any question and stop at any time. Nothing is required.
- Your name and phone number never leave our office. They do not go to the buyer, the dealership, or into the report. The report only says “the previous owner.”
- If we ask to record the call, we ask first, and you can say no. We take notes instead.
- We are not with the dealership, an insurance company or a lender, and nothing is being sold to you.
What we will never ask you for
Our questions are only about the car. We will never ask for:
- Money, a payment, or a card number
- Your Social Security number, driver’s license number or date of birth
- Bank, loan or insurance account details
- Passwords, codes sent to your phone, or remote access to anything
If anyone claiming to be from Truth Trade asks for any of those things, hang up. It isn’t us. Please let us know at info@truthtrade.co.
How to check that it’s really us
Please do check. Caller ID can be faked, so don’t rely on the number that called you. Use any of these instead:
- Ask the person who called for their name, then look it up on the State of Florida’s license search: licensing.fdacs.gov (search by last name under “Private Investigator”, the license category the state uses for our work).
- Call us back through this website, not through the number that called you. Our contact details are below.
- Ask for the order confirmation. We can send you the buyer’s order showing they hired us, with the buyer’s name removed.
- Take your time. Tell them you want to look us up and call back when it suits you. Anyone legitimate will say yes.
Reach us
Prefer we call you?
If now isn’t a good time, pick one that is. Enter the number we reached you on and when to call, and we’ll call you then from the same number.
Why owners usually say yes
Most people are glad to talk about a car they drove for years, and glad to help a stranger avoid an expensive surprise. You are the only person who can tell the next owner what it was really like. Whatever you decide, thank you for reading this far.
Don’t want to be contacted again?
Reply STOP to our text, or email us and we will close the file. We won’t reach out about this car again.
